Route: tips · corrections · media · readers

Four routes land on the same desk. Pick the one that matches what you are sending, and include the detail below so we can act on it.

Where each message should go

Everything below is read by an editor. Nothing is routed to a call centre or an automated queue.

  • Story tips

Documents, first-hand knowledge, or a lead on a political story. Tell us who, what, where, and how you know.

    Reviewed as they arrive

  • Corrections

Send the story link and the specific detail you believe is wrong. Include documentation if you have it.

    A few business days

  • Media inquiries

Reporters and editors working on related stories. Tell us your outlet, deadline, and what you need.

    Before deadline when clear

  • Reader questions

Questions about coverage, our editorial standards, or a topic we should track. We read them and use them to decide what to cover next.

    Routed to the right desk

Four routes, one desk

Pick the route that matches what you are sending. Each one below lists what to include so an editor can move on it without a round of questions.

  • Send a tip

Who, what, where, and how you know. Attach filings, memos, or screenshots that support it.

Say whether we can quote you, and under what conditions.

  • Submit a correction

Send the story link plus the exact detail you believe is wrong. Documentation helps.

Corrections are published, not quietly edited, so readers can see what changed.

  • Make a media inquiry

Name your outlet, your deadline, and what you need — comment, background, or an interview.

Clear, specific requests get answered fastest.

  • Ask a reader question

Ask about coverage, our editorial standards, or a topic we should track.

We can't answer every message, but we route them to the right section.

We protect sources when the story requires it, and we discuss that with you before publication.

What to include

Include your name and a way to reach you if you want a reply. For tips, say whether we can quote you and under what conditions. For corrections, include the URL.

If you send documents, tell us what they are and how you obtained them. That context often decides whether a document is usable at all.

Response times

We aim to reply to corrections and media inquiries within a few business days. Tips are reviewed as they arrive, and we may not respond to anonymous submissions.

Urgent requests tied to a deadline should say so in the subject line so they are pulled out of the queue first.

Send your message

One form for all four routes. Tell us which one it is and what you are sending, and an editor will pick it up from there.

We use what you send only to review and answer it. How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Where our reporting starts

Tips from county offices reach us first

Local election administrators, poll workers, and party volunteers are often closest to the questions our readers ask about voting rules and administration. If you work one of those jobs and something looks wrong or unclear, send it in — the detail matters more than the polished wording.

Questions we get asked about contacting us

Short answers before you write. If your situation is not covered here, the form above still reaches an editor.

Can I send a tip without giving my name?

Yes. Anonymous submissions are reviewed like any other tip, but we may not be able to respond to them, and we cannot offer source protection to someone we cannot identify and speak with directly.

How quickly will a correction be published?

We review every request and aim to reply within a few business days. When a correction is warranted, it is published with a note rather than quietly edited, so readers can see what changed and when.

Will you tell me if you use my tip?

Not always — reporting often takes weeks and not every lead becomes a story. Where a tip turns into coverage, we will raise the question of attribution and quoting with you before publication.

Do you take partnership or syndication requests?

Send it as a media inquiry with your outlet and what you have in mind. It reaches the editors who decide on those arrangements, and they will tell you plainly whether it fits what we publish.
